Peter Diggle delivers Presidential Address
Integrate Work Package 1 leader Prof. Peter Diggle who holds the prestigious role of Royal Statistical Society (RSS) president, gave his presidential address on the 23rd June 2015 to a packed lecture theatre, following the Society’s annual general meeting (AGM) according to StatsLife.
The Society’s online current affairs magazine reported: “A key biennial event in the RSS calendar, the address is given by (each of our) presidents during their two-year term as president, and provides a platform for the president to set out their vision for the Society or reflect on their presidency so far (or both).
“Titled ‘Statistics: a data science for the 21st century’, Peter charted the rise of data science and its relationship with statistics, giving some examples of where statistics make essential contributions to the emerging field of ‘electronic health’ research. He also offered thoughts on how the discipline of statistics might be better organised in universities – so that it is close to sciences as well as mathematics – including a suggested list of topics to include on an MSc in Statistics course.
“The Address was followed by the Society’s annual summer reception.”
